Congratulations to Mori Babuk — Inaugural CWJC Jazz Scholarship Winner
We are thrilled to announce Mori Babuk, a talented saxophonist from Calgary , as the inaugural recipient of the CWJC Jazz Scholarship for Women!
Mori is headed to MacEwan University to pursue Jazz Performance. They have embraced many opportunities to grow as a musician in the Calgary jazz community, including participating in the JazzYYC Lab Band, and being selected for the Girls in Jazz Honour Band and the Alberta Jazz Ensemble.
Mori is excited to work hard, continue developing their voice as a musician, and help change the gender disparity in jazz. We are proud to support their journey and look forward to seeing where their passion, talent and determination take them.

The CWJC Jazz Scholarship for Women is an award open to emerging women instrumental musicians who wish to continue their studies in jazz after high school. Applicants can be between 16 and 30 years old and be continuing their jazz studies through private lessons or at a recognized Canadian post-secondary music program with opportunities for continued studies in jazz. The scholarship is administered and awarded by Calgary Women’s Jazz Collective Society.
The value of the scholarship is $1000 and can be applied to expenses related to continued jazz studies.
This is a great opportunity for students who are female, identify as female, or are non-binary individuals to access funding that will help them pursue their artistic goals. An adjudication jury reviews all the submissions, and the successful candidate is featured at our annual Scholarship concert on November 27, 2026
